It has been reported that a ransomware virus, “WannaCry” is now infecting computers worldwide. The damage has been felt in hospitals, railways, schools and offices across 150 countries, including FedEx Corp in the United States. Read more about WannaCry here.

This virus encrypts a computer’s files and demands a ransom payment in order to regain access to them. The cyber hackers will rely on deceiving you with attachments or links that will begin to quickly spread infection throughout your network. Be sure to take caution in opening e-mails and attachments that may seem suspicious. Also, refrain from clicking links embedded in e-mails if you are unsure of the source. If you notice any suspicious activity, have questions regarding these attacks, or would like more information on best practices to ensure your company’s safety, please contact Warren Averett Technology Group’s Resource Center at Resource.center@warrenaverett.com, (334) 386-4800, or toll-free (888) 419-9090.
